Welcome to the Shanwell Wildlife Rescue Trust website

Shanwell Wildlife Rescue Trust (SWRT),a recognised Scottish charity, was set up in 2004 in Broughty Ferry, Dundee on the North East of Scotland to provide a frontline rescue and treatment service for injured wild animals.

As Tayside's only dedicated volunteer wildlife rescue service we currently operate  our wildlife care unit and a fully equipped wildlife rescue ambulance.

Our aim is to heal every animal capable of surviving its injuries and return it back to its natural environment, while giving those who will not survive, a comfortable and dignified death.

Shanwell Wildlife Rescue Trust is operated by volunteers who do not receive payment for their services, our common commitment is for the welfare of wildlife and the environments in which they live.

If you live in the Tayside or North Fife areas and wish to report a sick, injured or orphaned wild animal please call our Emergency Helpline: 07849 184 354. This phone line is manned 24 hours a day.

If you live outside our geographical area please click onto our EMERGENCY HELP page where you will find useful contact numbers for the whole of Scotland.

SWRT CARE POLICY

All animals that come into our care will be examined by a veterinary surgeon as necessary.
Our aim is to return every animal that is capable of surviving back into its natural environment. If the animal's injuries are so severe that it would be unable ever to lead a normal life back in the wild, we will allow any such animals the dignity of a peaceful and pain free death in a warm and comfortable environment. It is the Trust's policy that we do not believe that it is right to keep wild-bred animal in captivity.
